Hello all friends and followers. I just wanted to let you know, that after some prayer and much thought, I am stepping down from designing for awhile. I am just not one of those moms who can do homeschool, play with the baby, clean house and design and do all of those well. I also haven't scrapped for fun in a long time, unless it was to promote my designs.

This blog will stay up and any freebies still open will stay open. But I am slowly learning to simplify my life and this is one area I think needs to go for now.

Thank you for sticking with us at Mason Creek Creations and for liking our designs! My designs at www.digisisters.com will be up until Jan. 31st then they will be taken down if you want to purchase any before they are gone.

The new collab kit is up at Hummie's World! She has revamped the way we are doing things now to make it more concise, I really think it's a great idea. Instead of several different mini-kits, we all now contribute just a few papers and elements and Hummie will be combining them into one kit each month, so you only have to download one time :-)

New Baby Boy and NEW FREEBIE!!!!!

Well, while Shannon continues working on her graphic design degree (she's one busy woman!), I have been busy with my new little one. Yep, you read that right :-) We have adopted the most adorable baby boy, he is now 7 weeks old and it has been an amazing ride already. We were able to be there at his birth and brought him home from the hospital on April 9th. God's hand has been seen in every single detail, just awesome. My 12 year old wasn't sure how he would handle being a big brother...let me just tell you he has adjusted better than he dreamed. He is so in love with his new little brother, it's just precious to watch.

So...over the last week, during a few nap times, I finally started working on a new kit for you...obviously inspired by my sweet baby :-) This will be available to you in three different posts, so check back later this week to get each part! Today's part is the packet of 5 patterned papers. One of which I am especially fond of as it has my new little man's sweet baby feet on it! Without further ado....Sweet Little Feet, part 1 of 3! Between vacations, adoption classes, my son's upcoming surgery, working on our home, etc...I had to let my digital life fall behind. This is a small download for you, a clean simple template. First Freebie of the new year!

Thought we fell off the face of the earth, did ya? Nah...just busy :) And sick :(

After the Christmas holidays, while my boys headed for hunting in Central Texas, I headed to California to witness in person my TCU Horned Frogs make history by winning the Rose Bowl!! Definitely on my lifetime top 10, I tell you! It still seems surreal, it was awesome!

We all returned and promptly got sick, which tends to happen in our home after the holidays. In two weeks, we'll be heading to Disneyworld and in the meantime, we are taking adoption classes (oh yea...and homeschooling, working on our home, getting back into my paying online job...and did I tell you I had to get a replacement laptop so I'm still transferring stuff...) So if you continue to notice lapses on Mason Creek, maybe you'll grant me a little mercy at least until the middle of February? I promise to get a few posts up, so stay with us!!

As promised last December, I am starting on that birthday kit. Seeing as how my son's 12th birthday was in December, and I need to scrap those pictures, I'm working with colors for a boy's party currently. But don't worry, I will catch up with a girl's kit too!!

Oh, what a glorious day and holiday this is! We watched The Nativity Story last night, it's become a Christmas Eve tradition over the last few years and it just humbles me...reminds what we are truly celebrating. I love the lines from the Magi as they approach Mary, Joseph and Jesus..."Gold, for the King of Kings...Frankinsence, for the Priest of Priests...Myrrh in honor of thy sacrifice". And Mary tells the tearful shepherd "He has come for all mankind".

Just beautiful.

I hope you all have a wonderful, peaceful and joyful Christmas Day!

Can you believe Christmas is in 2 short days??!! It always passes so quickly...well, not for the kids waiting on Santa, but for us adults for sure!

Day 11 brings you 3 Christmas overlays and one bonus paper. The overlays are transparent png files, I put them on a cream background so you could see the designs.

I haven't created a quickpage in a LONG time...in fact, I haven't used one in a LONG time. I love, love, love quickpages. Have you tried one? They make your Christmas scrappin' a breeze, all you have to do is pop your pictures under the layout, save as a jpeg and you are DONE!!!

You are probably all thinking we have fallen off the face of the digital world, huh? Well, it feels like it for us too, I promise! November and December are just nutty, aren't they, even for the most well-meaning scrappers :~)

I would like to start us all back off in style...Mason Creek style, that is...with 12 Days of Christmas Scrappin' Joy! I am still working on that birthday kit I mentioned a few weeks ago...that actual birthday is in less than 5 days...I think I'm in denial that I almost have a 12 year old!

Softly Fall Freebie!

As mentioned in the last post...I jumped in with another Designer Color Challenge on Hummie's World (if you still haven't visited that site, you GOTTA go. Lots of great classes, tutorials, etc...and great people!). This one had some very pale, beautiful pastel colors but focused on fall...pastels are not usually my forte' but I loved the challenge of gearing it to fall.

I'm heading out for my 3-Day for the Cure 60 mile walk on Thursday so this will be the main post for the week...but when I get back, look for a brand new breast cancer awareness kit!!!

Candy Corn Alphabet!

I was having trouble coming up with the numbers for this alphabet so I asked some friends on Facebook what they thought. After a little conversation, I was inspired to finish this set (uppercase vellum white alpha each w/a spiderweb for decoration and vellum gray numbers with bats for decoration!). However, one of my friends sparked more creativity and I can't let it go...so you will be receiving a SECOND alphabet for Tricky Treats next week :-)

Now I'm off to a Girl's Weekend...no kids, no hubbies, just me, some friends and my laptop for some good scrappin', food and fun :~) I hope you have some time this weekend to scrap a few wonderful pages as well!

Quickpage Tutorial

To use a Quickpage...
1. simply open your digital software (Adobe Photoshop Elements, etc...).
2. Open the Quickpage that is a PNG file (some will have the PNG file plus a JPEG that is just a preview...must be a PNG file to add your own photos. JPEGS will leave the hole white, PNG's leave it blank, you need blank space).
3. Choose your photo(s) and open them also.
4. To the right, in your layers palette, you should now have the quickpage and your photo(s) as the only layers.
5. Move your photos to approximately where the holes are in your quickpage. I usually do this with the photos on top at first so I can see if I need to turn them or shrink them.
6. Then, in your layers palette, move the QuickPage layer to the top of all photos.
7. Now your photos are under your quickpage and you can move your photos around a bit to fit them properly into the holes of the QP.
8. Sometimes you might need to add a shadow to the QP so your photo has some depth to it inside the frame you are given.
9. Journal where you want on the QP, add a title if needed and save as a JPEG just like any other scrapbook page and you are done!

Borders Galore 1

When I was paper scrappin' I used to love making borders for papers, just something easy to jazz up a LO. I had all of the fun cutting tools to make them too (still have a few, but it's just so hard to break the digital habit once you start!!). Now I have all of the tools but it's so much easier and you can use these borders over and over again with different papers, styles, embellishments...without hurting your fingers or wrists :)

Color Changing with Wand Tool

This is a simple way to change colors on items that are fairly solid in color (not as easy to use on grungy papers, elements b/c of the different layers of colors involved).

In PSE (all versions) and Photoshop CS (all versions), you have a wand in your tool "kit" (the strip of tools to the left of your workspace). It looks like something Harry Potter might use :)

To change the color of one of the Summer's End overlays, for example, you will:

1. Open the Overlay in PSE

2. Click on the wand tool

3. Take the wand and click on one of the stripes, it should now have what we call "dancing ants" around it

4. Click on your Color Picker box (towards the bottom of your tool kit) and pick the color you want to use, click ok

5. Once your Color Picker box is closed, simply hold down the alt button while clicking once on the Backspace button and the color will fill in that one stripe.

6. If you want to color several stripes the same color, simply click with your wand on the first stripe, then hold down the SHIFT key and click on the rest of the stripes you want to use. Then follow steps 4 & 5.

Wah-lah! New stripes. To make these more like vellum, simply lower the opacity :)

Fun Lovin' Pets Freebie (with overlays)

Hello digi-friends!!!

I hope you had a wonderful weekend. My son and I are home from camp and my hubby is home from North Carolina so I think my world will be back to "normal" for awhile...whatever that is, lol!

I have some fun ideas in my head for future kits but this one had to come first. Just since arriving home, we have had to make a not so great decision about our 14 year old lab Millie. It is the hardest decision a pet owner must make, one which we had to make last year for our then 15 year old lab Max. Max was my hubby's first dog to ever call his own, a beautiful black lab who was adored by my family. Millie was our second dog to own, a pretty yellow lab, and she has always been more my dog so this one is even harder for me.

So, in honor and memory of both Max and Millie, I had to start on a pet kit so I can go back and scrap a few photos of my own by which to remember our wonderful dogs.

This is the paper pack, 10 papers and 2 overlays are included.

Happy Life Alphabet - pearled!

I laugh as I see mine and Shannon's posts...you can see our minds are in slightly different places right now...Shannon is ready for a fun relaxing summer afternoon and I'm ready for a romantic wedding! But we both are ready for laughter and memories to be made.
That's why it's fun to have a design partner, we can cover lots of bases in just a week or two yet somehow connect our ideas without even planning it, LOL :~)

So, going along w/my Happy Life kit, here is a beautiful scripted pearlized alphabet for you to download going into the weekend. The upper-case letters all have sweet little pearlized hearts on them. It's that time of summer...at least it is for our kids :)...Vacation Bible School!

We are blessed to have a team of young college kids from Clear Ministries who come in to run our VBS so the church members get a bit of a break and our kids LOVE these girls and guys! They definitely have more energy that I do :~)
So, running with some fun summer colors and ideas I saw today when picking up my son, I've created a fun VBS kit for ya. I hope you can use it, I didn't date any items so you can use it for previous years as well, I know I need to, LOL!

I am walking in my 3rd Susan G. Komen 3Day for the Cure (60 mile walk to raise funds for breast cancer research) this fall and am knitting fun pink scarves to help meet my fundraising goal. Yes, I realize it's June, yes I realize it's not really cool enough outside for scarves yet but I am posting them on Facebook and here as I make them. For $25, they make fabulous birthday and holiday gifts and the entire $25 goes towards my walk.

Ah...while I love visiting the hill country of Texas and my family, it is nice to finally have a first day of summer at home with nothing to do but clean house. Senior Year Freebie!!

As the school year winds to a close, my mind (while completely lost in the chaos more so than usual), finds itself thinking back on my own last year of school. My memory is not what it used to be, but I do still vividly remember my Senior year...Senior Skip Day at Six Flags, hating prom (my own fault...I cut my own bangs that day...BAD IDEA...plus it was all pictures, hardly any dancing!), but loving the After Prom Casino night, final drill team performance, graduation...it was all good. Would I go back? No way, I like where I am now too! But the memories are precious.

May Desktop Freebie & Color Tutorial!!!!

Now for a fun tutorial for ya. Ever have the perfect piece of paper but it's just not the right shade for your layout? Or you need a red ribbon but the one you like is blue? We'll be giving a short series of Color Changing Tutorials over the next couple of weeks. The first one up is the easiest...adjusting the Hue/Saturation. I'll give directions for PSE. If you use another PS program and would like directions, e-mail us at masoncreekcreations@live.com

PSE:

1. Once you open the paper or element you want to use, make a duplicate copy of it just for back-up (to do this, go to your Layers Palette on the right of your PSE screen, click and drag the layer down to the "new layer" button which looks like a piece of paper w/a corner rolled up...while on the button, let go of your clicker and a copy will appear under your original!) You can then click on the little "eye" to the left of the copy layer so it's still there but hidden and out of your way until you might need it.

2. Now the fun begins :) With the main layer showing, move your mouse to the top bar of PSE and click on Enhance.

3. Next click and hover on "Adjust Color"

4. As you can see there are many fun things you can do with your item, but we are going to choose "Adjust Hue/Saturation"

5. Once the box pops up, start playing. The Hue slider will change the actual color from green to blue to yellow, etc... The Saturation slider changes the intensity of the color chosen. The Lightness slider darkens and lightens the item. There are other parts to this pop-up screen but we're focusing mainly on the sliders. Click on the master drop down menu and the colorize button to have more fun!!

6. Wah-lah! you have a new colored paper, ribbon, etc... Here are my samples. "A" is the original paper and ribbon, "B" is the new improved color :)

In honor of this wonderful "holiday" for all of us dedicated scrappers...here is a small freebie for ya :) It's just part 1, there will be more coming later this week because I am having fun with these colors!!

It's Friday! :)
I got back from my crazy trip to Colorado. I have all of my hair, too!!
The best part (and sometimes, lonely) is that both of my boys stayed there with their Mamaw and Papaw - for TWO weeks!!!!
Just me and my little girl - I see some major girly things in my near future.

If you haven't yet signed up at Hummie's...I strongly encourage you to do so...it's easy!! There you will not only find more kits to go along with mine (same colors), but you will find tutorials on everything digital/Photoshop Elements (PSE). Lots of encouragement to get layouts done also, I have finished more LO's through their template and theme challenges than I probably would have on my own.

So, back to the Freebie :~) Swingin' Spring is my addition to the challenge. You will receive 5 papers, 16 elements (6 are straight pins in one png file but to separate them, simply use your rectangle marquee tool, draw a box around the one you want, copy it then paste it to your LO), and 1 spring wordart.

I hope you have had a wonderful Friday so far :) I have had a nice, relaxing day...breakfast with friends, the local Spring Market show, lunch with my son...who could ask for more? In fact, this day inspired these overlays that we are offering today!!
